What I’ve been doing

As I sit here in my kitchen in Boston in March and feel the breeze blowing through my open screen door, it feels like spring. Work-wise, it feels like spring as well. I feel like I’ve been hunkered down all winter underground working, and I’m only now beginning to poke my head through the earth and feel the sunshine — not unlike the crocuses I’ve begun to see around.

This past fall and winter has accounted for my most productive season of writing yet. I’ve been editing the corporate blog of tech venture capital firm OpenView Venture Partners; written (or am in the process of writing) three features for Edible Boston; written about the Boston Public Market for TheAtlanticCities.com; written about Salem and family-friendly pubs for The Boston Globe; contributed front-0f-book pieces to Boston Magazine on adventure/obstacle races and a historic lightship; written a how-to piece about self-directed writing retreats for Writer’s Digest; managed blogging and social media for an exciting travel startup, TripServe; and been immersed (for the last three months) in a tragic story for Boston Magazine about the teenaged accused killer’s history with our state’s foster care system.

Phew!

What a variety of topics and moods — from marshmallows to murderers. I’ll say it again: I have the best job in the world. At the same time, I’m excited to let off the gas just a bit and enjoy spring and summer with my family in Boston.
