We don’t think about it that often, but perhaps we should: Behind every emotionally moving video, informative tour, or compelling commercial we see is a master wordsmith who wrote the script. I’ve been privileged to partner with TourSphere — which creates mobile apps tours for museums and cities — on several occasions to write scripts for their tours and other videos. In doing so, I must imagine each word being spoken by a professional narrator. I must contribute my part of what will be a symphony of words, sounds and images intended to transport the listener/viewer or call them to action. In video and audio, especially, every word counts. A stray idea can potentially derail an entire piece.
Here are a few samples of my script writing:
The following video about multi-million dollar enhancements being planned for Henry & Clara Ford’s “Fair Lane” mansion was shown to the board of directors of the Ford Motor Company.
I also researched and wrote a script for a mobile app tour of the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House. This moving clip describes Edsel’s relationship with The Point along the Detroit River, as well as his final days of life.
